Deacon James McElroy Obituary

With sincere compassion, we respectfully announce the transition of Deacon James McElroy. A native of Greenwood, FL, and resident of Montgomery, AL, Mr. McElroy transitioned Thursday, December 29th, 2022. He was 84. A Public Visitation will be held Friday, January 6th, 2023 from 4-6PM in the Chapel of Jackson Professional Funeral Services. Deacon McElroy will lie in state one hour prior to the Celebration of Life Service that will begin at 11AM on Saturday, January 7th, 2023 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Old-Field. Pastor Martin L. Stinson is the Officiant. The Committal and Interment will follow at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Deacon James McElroy was born on August 10th, 1938 in Greenwood, FL. He was raised in love by his uncle and aunt, Leroy & Lola McElroy Cason, who preceded him in death along with his brother: Charles Edward McElroy; a nephew: Kenneth McElroy and his mother-in-law: Annie Rose.

James accepted Christ at an early age, attended school in his hometown, and after graduating from high school, he obtained a CDL. He began driving over the road as a Commercial Trucker. This he was proud and passionate about. From dry vans, flatbeds, refrigerated trucks, and tanks to livestock trucks, he was able to drive anything. With a vast array of commercial transportation experience under his belt, and 61 years of loyal service with Webster Trucking Corporation, James retired in 2018. His tenacity wouldn't allow him to stay away long. 4 months later, James started driving locally for Venture Express until July of 2022. The decades of dedication to his craft says volumes; however, those who were fortunate enough to work with him will never forget the inspiring footprint that James left on their lives. He knew how to make others comfortable and was genuine in his efforts

Mr. McElroy's dedication was not confined to his career. He was a provider, caretaker and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was also a member of the African lodge #347 in Millbrook, AL. Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memories are: his loving and devoted wife; Maezola Struggs McElory; his children: Lorenzo B. (Cynthia) McElroy, Quincy Williams, Jeffrey (Mya) Strickland, Leevoreis Jiles, Ernestine Porter, Deneitha Struggs and Monique Struggs all of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren: Triquon, Justin, NaTasha, Tiffany, LaShannon, Shaqourya, Saniya, Bralen, Makenzii, Jaliyah, Jeffrey, III, Kylie, Zavion, Ivy, Ava, Joi, Malia, Kamiyah, Damaria, Faith and Haigler, III; and nine great-grandchildren; his siblings: Rev. Robert (Carolyn) McElroy of Mesquite, TX, Janice D. McElroy of Greenwood, FL, and Susie (Connie) McElroy-West of Tallahassee, FL; aunts: Ruby C. Benett and Maggie Robinson; brothers & sisters-in-law: Joseph M. (Kayla) Struggs, Jessie (Nancy) Moore, Mattie McElroy, Angela Kie, Lisa Williams and Elnora Struggs Ricketts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, his truck driving family and friends.
