With sincere compassion, we respectfully announce the transition of Mr. Earl James Hill, Sr., also known as "Sug." A native, and resident of Hope Hull, AL, Mr. Hill transitioned Tuesday, October 29th, 2024. He was 78. A Public Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 from 4-6PM in the Alfredia Smith Jackson Honorary Chapel of Jackson Professional Funeral Services. A Public Visitation will take place one hour prior to The Celebration of Life to be held at 12Noon on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 at Rock Creek Missionary Baptist Church. The Committal and Interment will follow in the Churchyard Cemetery. Rev. Emmitt Major is the Officiant & Eulogist.
After an extended illness, Earl gained his wings and peacefully took flight Tuesday, October 29th, 2024. He joins his beloved son: Earl James Hill, Jr.; his parents: Joe Hill & Katie Davis Hill; a sister: Zelma Hill Chappell; and a brother: Roosevelt E. Hill.
Earl was planted in the garden of Joe and Katie Hill on May 30th, 1946. As stated by his mom, he was a "Momma's Boy." At an early age he was taught to love the Lord. He made his confession to Christ and became a member of God's Kingdom. His place of worship was Rock Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Earl had a passion, and love, for music and singing. He sang in the church choir as a young lad. "Sug" as he was known to many, was also a member of the Rock Creek Male Chorus, and sang with several groups; to include: The Mighty Travelers and The New Sons Of The South. His staple songs were "Sending Up My Timber" and "If I Don't Make It To Heaven, Nobody Fault But Mine."
Earl left those who remain a lasting heritage; his wife: Dorothy Williams-Hill; two devoted daughters who will carry his legacy: Veronica Hill of Montgomery, AL and Dianella (Willie) Cargill of Hope Hull, AL; the legacy will continue through his four cherished grandchildren: Prosha (David) Howard, Jasmine (Quinton) Graves, Mia Warren and Calise Warren; four great-grandchildren; Tyler Howard, Jacorey Cargill, Demarcus Howard and Legend Graves; four sisters: Erma James, Romilda (Willie) Reed, Glean (Albert) Holloway, and Wilma Hill, all of Montgomery, AL; one brother-in-law: Henry (Betty) Williams of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters-in Law: Lula Williams and Josephine Williams, both of Montgomery, AL; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
