With sincere compassion we respectfully announce the transition of Mr. Foye DuBose, III. Mr. DuBose, a native, and resident of Montgomery, AL, transitioned Saturday, September 14th, 2024. He was 53. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at 4PM from the Alfredia S. Jackson Honorary Chapel of Jackson Professional Funeral Services.
Foye DeBose, III was born on September 16th, 1970 in Montgomery, Alabama. He grew up as an athlete, and began his dance career at Carver Creative and Performing Arts Center and Alabama Dance Theatre. His educational journey earned him scholarships to the University of Alabama Birmingham, Hungarian National Ballet School, and a Ford Foundation Scholarship to the Pacific Northwest Ballet School. He continued his training as a Ford Foundation scholar at Pacific Northwest Ballet School, dancing leading roles in Symphony in C, Western Symphony, Violin Concerto, and Mozartiana. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Perry Brunson Memorial Award for dedication and excellence.
Foye appeared professionally with Dayton Ballet, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Ohio Ballet, Southern Danceworks, and Alabama Ballet, having appeared in "Don Quixote," "Romeo and Juliet," "Sleeping Beauty" and "Swan Lake." In 2007-2008 he was a recipient of the ASCA dance fellowship. Upon retiring from the professional stage, he returned to Montgomery where he was the Ballet Master at the Alabama Dance Theatre from 2005 to 2014. He served as the Artistic Director of Montgomery Ballet 2014-2015 and taught at Andalusia Ballet before going to Hinsdale Dance Academy in 2017 where he co-directed the Ballet Boys program.
As a choreographer, Foye created works for Alabama Ballet, Southern Danceworks, Georgia Youth Ballet, Birmingham Southern College, Alabama Dance Theatre, Montgomery Ballet, Andalusia Ballet, and Hinsdale Dance Academy. He was a mentor to hundreds of students throughout his career and taught lessons of discipline, hard work and etiquette. He taught his students values that extend far beyond the studio and continue to shape their lives, whether they be on a stage, in a boardroom or with their families. As his students go on to teach their own students, families and communities about what they learned from him, he lives on. After a battle with kidney disease, Foye died a hero as an organ and tissue donor, a physical reminder of the extensive legacy he leaves behind. Aside from his love of dance and his students, he loved the Alabama Crimson Tide and was a loyal fan through victories and losses.
Foye is preceded in death by his parents: Janice Harris DuBose & Foye DuBose, Jr., and one brother: Vandarian DuBose. He leaves behind; one sister, Stephanie (Eric ) DuBose-Alexander of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother: Brian (Idell) Stokes of Moreno Valley, CA; aunts: Doris Giles, Anita Harris, Carole (Willie) Vaughans, and Dr. Emily Walker, all of Montgomery, AL, Catherine Cannon, Barbara Sabino, Mary Jean DuBose, all of Moss Point, MS; uncles: Ronald and Del Harris, both Montgomery, AL, and Alphonse (Josie) DuBose of Grand Bay, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends: Christopher Fellows and Heather Clark.
