Hattie Powe Obituary

With sincere compassion, we respectfully announce the transition of Mrs. Hattie Baldwin Powe "Cupcake." A native of Montgomery, AL, and resident of Pike Road, AL, Mrs. Powe transitioned Wednesday, December 7th, 2022. She was 76. A Public Visitation will be held from 4-6PM on Friday, December 16th, 2022 from the chapel of Jackson Professional Funeral Services. Mrs. Powe will lie in state for public viewing one hour before the Homegoing Celebration begins at 11AM on Saturday, December 17th, 2022 at New Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Steven Franklin is the Officiant. Committal and Interment will follow the service at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery

Mrs. Hattie Mae Watkins Baldwin Powe of Montgomery, Alabama was born March 17, 1946 in Hope Hull, Lowndes County Alabama to the late Claude (Buster) and Cathren Watkins. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended/joined various churches to include Big Roxanna MBC, Morning Star MBC, North Montgomery MBC and New Providence MBC serving with various auxiliaries to include the usher board, Red Circle Advisory and Deacon Wives.

Hattie worked for the State of Alabama approximately 40 years in various temporary and permanent positions before her retirement from the Medicaid Agency as a Health Insurance Assistant. Hattie was a caregiver,   advisor, promoter, supporter and protector of her family and friends. Several of her many skills include cooking and baking; nothing could compare to her chicken salad and sweet potato pie. She loved decorating and early on gained skills in ceramics and macrame. And everything her green thumb touched grew.

She was preceded in death by her sisters; Jessie Brown, Mary King Robinson, and Virginia McCall; brothers; Fletcher Watkins, Jimmie Watkins, Sr., Willie Watkins, Sr. and Clifton Watkins; and devoted niece Martha Stinson.

She leaves to cherish and adore her memory, her husband: Charles Powe of Pike Road, Alabama; a brother: Claude (Sherri) Watkins of East Point, Georgia; a daughter Belinda Baldwin Hamilton Johnson; a son: Willie James (Janice) Baldwin, Jr.; two sons: Henri (Felicia) Powe and Eric (Maureen) Jackson, all of Montgomery, Alabama; grandchildren: Retonio “Tony” (Shanika) Hamilton of Huntsville, Alabama, Jeffery “JJ” (Courtney) Johnson of Montgomery, Alabama, DeAndrew (Konshinea) Williams of Warner Robbins, Georgia, Denard Williams of Arlington, Texas, Alexandra Powe of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Terrell Pruitt of Mobile, Alabama, Erin, Lauren and Eric Jeremiah (EJ) Jackson of Montgomery, Alabama; 11 great-grandchildren: to include Retonio Jr. (RJ) Hamilton, “Drs.” Jaden and Jordyn Johnson; sisters-in-law: Mattie Watkins Ernestine Ranier, Shirley (James) White, all of Montgomery, Alabama, and Annie Brown of Louisville, Kentucky; brothers-in-law: Leon (Jeannette) Powe of Dallas, Texas, Carl (Carolyn) Powe of Vinegar Bend, Alabama, Van E. (Jackie) Powe of Citronelle, Alabama, Larry (Mary) Powe of Wetumpka, Alabama; and a host of nephews and nieces to include Rosa Lawson, Mary Jackson, Valerie Watkins, Mary Lee and T. Michelle Smith, and many other family and friends, including life long friends Barbara Rogers and   Family, Zellene Swinney and Family and Teresa Pringle and Family .
