With sincere compassion, we respectfully announce the transition of Mr. James Lewis (Smokey) Thomas, a native, and resident of Montgomery, AL. Mr. Thomas transitioned on Saturday, April 30th, 2022. He was 72. A Public Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6th, 2022, from 4PM-6PM in the Chapel of Jackson Professional Funeral Services. Everyone attending the Public Visitation will be required to wear a mask or face covering at all times while inside the facility. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at 1PM. This will take place at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery in Matthews, AL. Rev. Roderick Henderson of Mt. Calvary M.B.C. in Atlanta, GA is the Officiant. The Committal & Interment will follow the service.

 
Mr. James Lewis Thomas, or "Smokey" as he was affectionately called, was born February 6, 1950 in Montgomery, Alabama to Ms. Mattie P. Nobles and Mr. Ralph Fuller Belser. He departed this life Saturday April 30, 2022. James accepted Christ at an early age at Elizabeth Baptist Church. He attended Carver High School, United Truck Masters Drivers School and Alabama State University. James was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and friend. On December 2, 1978 he and Linda united in holy matrimony. Together they shared over forty-three years of love. Smokey had a sense of humor like no other. He loved to laugh, and music was everything to him. In his leisure time, James loved to travel. Panama City Florida was his favorite city.  During his industrious life, James devoted twenty years as a forklift driver for Winn Dixie. Later he attained a career with Barbers Dairy as a commercial truck driver. James retired after 43 years of loyalty & hard work.  


Those who remain to cherish his many wonderful memories are; his wife: Linda Thomas; one daughter: Shonda Thomas Lykes (Arnell); four sons: Tevin Thomas (Latonya), Delreko Thomas (Cebriane), Tavares Thomas, Sr. (Toni) and Roderick Henderson (Veronica); grandchildren: Dareus Henderson, Kerington Thomas, Connor Thomas, Ja’Kariya Miles, Bryson Thomas, Tytiana Johnson, Tanisha Thomas, Tavares Thomas Jr, Tyesha Smith, Tyra Thomas and Tyrek Thomas; great-grandchildren: Jaylah Smith, Josiah Smith, Kyren Thomas, Laila Parks, Harmonee Battle, Sereniti Battle, Treyon Shingles and Heaven Lyons; one niece: Jean Nobles; one nephew: Terrance Nobles; a special sister-cousin: Ollie Price; sisters-in-law: Evett, Evetta, Vicki, and Jackie; brothers-in -law: Glenn, Amos Earl, and Willie James and a host of special cousins, other relatives and friends.

 

James is preceded in death by; his eldest son: Traibeon Thomas; both parents: Mattie P Nobles and Ralph Fuller Belser; and three siblings: Wille P. Nobles, Betty Nobles, Larry Barnett.
