With sincere compassion, we respectfully announce the transition of Mrs. Katie Mae Franklin, also known as "Coach Franklin" A native, and resident, of Montgomery, AL; Mrs. Franklin transitioned Monday, September 11th, 2023. A Public Visitation will be held Friday, September 22nd, 2023 at the Chapel of Jackson Professional Funeral Services. The Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 at Beulah Baptist Church. The service time is 1PM. Mrs. Franklin will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The Officiant & Eulogist is Pastor Porter Osby, Jr. The Interment will take place following the service at Wright Chapel A.M.E.Z.Church Cemetery in Lowndesboro, AL.
Mrs. Katie Mae Franklin was born May 18th, 1954 to Fate Grimes & Sarah Duncan. She accepted Christ at a young age; and was a baptized member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. Later, she joined Beulah Baptist Church. Her education included graduating from George Washington Carver High School. Katie was a youth & sports enthusiast, and later became known as "Coach Franklin." Through the years she has worked as a substitute teacher, coached basketball at Capitol Heights; winning their first championship in many years, worked with several youth groups in the community; to include: all of the Y.M.C.A.'s Boys & Girls Club, and even started her own basketball organization - the 'Zulu Warring Hornets.' Mrs. Franklin also served the entertainment community of Montgomery as a local disc jockey: "DJ Lady K."
Many will miss her encouragement, enthusiasm and love for life. However; no one will miss her more than her family, whom she immensely loved. They include; her husband: Scott Franklin; her children: Harold Wesley Franklin, Robin Scott Franklin, Karah (Frederick) Franklin-Chapman, Lakirah (Deion) Grimes-Tatum, Christopher Thornton, Cornell Stewart & John Franklin; ten grandchildren: Camren Franklin, Jordan Franklin, Christian Chapman, Logan Tatum, Adalilyn Tatum, Hayden Tatum, Zayden Robinson, Passion Franklin, Kendarrius Jones & Kortez Stewart; three siblings: Loretta Grimes, William Grimes, and Willie (Buck) Grimes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives. friends, and her ASF Foundation family.
