Maude Smith Obituary

With sincere compassion, we respectfully announce the transition of Ms. Maude J. Smith. A native, and resident of Montgomery, AL, Ms. Smith transitioned, Monday, July 1st, 2024. She was 62. Complete Service

Maude Jamelle “Mel” Smith was born to Nan Ligon Smith and James Henry Smith on November 2, 1961. She gained her wings July 1st, 2024, at BMCS in a comfortable space provided.

Jamelle accepted Christ as a child and became a member of Day St. Baptist Church for some time. Later, in her early adulthood she joined Jackson Street Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL under Rev. Harris. This is where she attended most of the time. When she couldn’t attend, she enjoyed a service on TBN. Mel had a very contagious personality, those who encountered her would surely get a dose of her sarcasm and silliness. She was a jokester and loved to see others have a good time. Mel loved to care for others, children and some elders. She often volunteered for St. John Head start and recieved an award in 1997. Jamelle attended Jefferson Davis High School until her 11th grade year and ultimately received her G.E.D. During this time, she worked at Trenholm in the cafeteria as a server. Shortly after she became a mother; and from that moment on she was a stay-at-home mom. Due to her passion to render care for others, she took nursing aide classes through the American Red Cross, and also Skill enhancement classes through the Family Guidance Center. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, listening to a variety of music, crossword puzzles, cooking, bible readings, scriptural writings, and journaling.

She leaves to cherish her memories; one loving brother: Anthony (Sabrina) Gibson, Montgomery, Al; four children: Nan G. Smith, Noel J. Smith-Hitchens (Benjamin), Job R. Trotter, Montgomery, AL, and Emily G. Trotter, Birmingham, AL; eight grandchildren: Tyteanna Smith, Kanisa Smith, Brenden Hitchens, Taliyah Robinson, Tashiyah Robinson, Taylor Smith, Nova Hitchens, and Breon Hitchens, Montgomery, AL; a host of cousins, extended family and friends, and a devoted friend LaCynthia “Joy” Holt. Jamelle is also survived by; two aunts: Alice S. Gooden, Montgomery, AL and Stella Patterson, Miami, FL; and one uncle: Samuel (Karen) Smith, Trenton NJ. She iss preceded in death by; both her parents: Nan Ligon Smith and James H. (Wilhelmina) Smith; and one brother: Irvin R. Gibson of Montgomery, AL
