With sincere compassion, we respectfully announce the transition of Mr. Murphy Lee Holmes, a native of Port Vincent, LA, and resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Mr. Holmes transitioned on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022. He was 66. A Public Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2022, from 10AM-11AM at The Church of God in Baton Rouge, LA. The Homegoing Celebration will follow at 11AM. Dr. Mark Dillard is the Officiant. Jackson Professional Funeral Services. as well as The Church of God, public health and safety protocols require that all individuals attending the Public Visitation & Funeral Service wear a mask or face covering at all times while inside the facility. Individuals attending the Funeral Service are also required to practice social distancing, and are subject to temperature screening. The Committal & Interment will take place at the Holmes Family Cemetery in Galvez, LA following the service.
Mr. Murphy Lee Holmes was born December 2nd, 1955 in Port Vincent, LA to the union of Mr. Walter & Mrs. Helen Ealy Holmes, Sr. He was the tenth of sixteen children. On Wednesday, April 27th, 2022, at White Oak Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Murphy answered the Master's call.
As a youth, Murphy was an active member of The Church of God in Galvez, LA. It was there that he accepted Christ, and was baptized by Bishop Roman Ealy and Bishop Johnny Williams at the age of thirteen. He remained faithful until he moved to New Orleans, LA. Later in life, Murphy attended Evergreen Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA until his health declined. He received his education at Kennedy High School in Ascension Parish, LA. His industrious life included establishing, owning & operating his own Repair & Maintenance Service. Murphy enjoyed during this for more than two decades. He had a friendly demeanor, was humble in spirit; and didn't mind assisting elderly people, neighbors, friends, family and whomever he thought could use a helping hand. He genuinely loved his family, and enjoyed the simple things in life.
Murphy leaves to forever cherish and adore his memories; five sisters: Redina H. Lee of Galvez, LA, Pastor Marie H. Henry (Eddie, Sr.) of Gonzales, LA; Helen H. Watson, Sharon H. Avie (Daniel, Sr.) all of Baton Rouge, LA, and Eunice H. Clay (Charles) of Pace, FL; five brothers: James Holmes (Barbara) of Phenix City, AL, Joseph Lee Holmes (Brenda) of Dallas,TX, Eugene Holmes, of Baton Rouge, LA, and Lindy Paul Holmes of Virginia; aunts and uncles: John Ealy, Sr. (Lillian), Wanda Ealy, Freddie Jackson, Sr. and Walter Montford. He also leaves behind a multitude of devoted nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces & nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by; his parents: Mr. & Mrs. Walter & Helen E. Holmes; two sisters: Albertha H. Anderson & Juanita H. Johnson; three brothers: Walter Holmes, Jr., Walter Holmes, III, Mark Holmes & Robert Lee Holmes; paternal grandparents: James Holmes & Tessie Baxter; maternal grandparents: John & Bertha Ealy; several aunts, uncles, three nephews, and three nieces.
