Sheryl Perkins Obituary

With sincere compassion, we respectfully announce the transition of Ms. Sheryl J. Perkins. A resident, of Montgomery, AL; Ms. Perkins transitioned Tuesday, September 26th, 2023. She was 63. A Public Visitation will be held Friday, October 6th, 2023, from 4-6PM at the Chapel of Jackson Professional Funeral Services. The Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at First Missionary Baptist Church. The service time is 11AM. Ms.Perkins will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The Officiant & Eulogist is Pastor Fred Gray. The Interment will take place following the service at Garrison Memorial Cemetery.

Sheryl Harris Perkins was born on October 4, 1959, to the late Charles A. Milledge and Betty Harris Alexander. She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Walter Ellis of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. She graduated from G.W. Carver High School, Class of 1978 and went on to attend Alabama State University. She met and married Jessie Perkins Sr. to which her three children were born. She worked diligently at Bes Pak & Company before becoming disabled.

Sheryl dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for her family, and her legacy of love will continue to thrive through her children and grandchildren. Her wisdom, strength, and guidance have left an indelible mark on our lives, and her memory will forever be cherished.

Sheryl embraced life with boundless enthusiasm. She found joy in the simplest of pleasures, whether it was sitting on the porch with friends, watching The Price is Right, listening to music, switching genres from Gospel to Blues, or spending time with her family. She had an infectious laughter that could brighten the gloomiest of days, and a smile that warmed the hearts of all who knew her. Her capacity for love was limitless, and her compassion knew no boundaries.

Sheryl was preceded in death by; her father: Charles “Charlie” Milledge; mother: Betty Alexander; stepfather: Sonny Alexander; grandparents: Horace and Virginia Harris, Rosa Lee Patrick; grandparents: Charles and Nancy Milledge; great grandmother: Isabella Jerkins; sisters and brother: Cynthia, Michael, and Opral Washington whom passed away as toddlers. 

She leaves to cherish her memories; two adoring daughters: April (John) Scott and Jessica Perkins, and one son: Jessie (Katela) Perkins Jr. all of Montgomery, AL; eight grandchildren: Zykia Taylor, Amya Scott, JaQuantae Perkins, Jakavion Perkins, Alex Scott, Ja’Nyia McClendon, Bralynn Perkins, Ke’Shun Perkins; four great grandchildren: Ka’lynn Foster, Kylee Taylor, Kaliyah Perkins, Kingston Perkins; a host of brothers and sisters whom she loved dearly; four uncles: David (Jacqueline) Milledge, Emanuel Milledge, Samuel (Rosalyn) Milledge and William (Elizabeth) Milledge; two aunts: Mary Mayweather and Sara M. Boardley; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she cherished dearly; estranged husband: Jessie Perkins Sr.; special friends: Jean McCrary, Barbara Ann Thomas, Elosie Hall, The Benn Family, and a host of other special friends, goddaughters and godsons from the Ridgecrest community and surrounding areas.

Jackson Professional Funeral Services is grateful to Ms. Perkins' family for entrusting the final care and arrangements of their loved one to our caring and dedicated professionals. We solicit your continued, sincere support, and prayers for her family as they navigate through this experience.
