Zaveon DeJuan Simpkins was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on November 29, 2007, to LaShonta Simpkins and Omar Brooks. Despite his short time on earth, he was deeply loved and brought immense joy to those around him.
Zaveon accepted Christ in his young age, while serving as a member of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church. He became a self-taught drummer and served in this ministry faithfully. Zaveon loved to put on a show, so he would always play the drums harder when the church had guest. His favorite song was “Lord I’m Depending on You.”
Zaveon was a Junior at Percy Julian High School in Montgomery, Alabama. He loved his school and was a light to so many students, teachers, coaches, and friends. He spent many years playing football, basketball, and running track.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories; a loving and devoted mother: LaShonta (Antonio) Simpkins-Haigler; father: Omar Brooks; grandmother: Edna Byrd of Montgomery, AL; grandfather: Donald Simpkins, Sr. of Texas; four brothers: Zakes and Zaiden Simpkins of Montgomery, AL, and Omar Brooks and Armoni Thomas of West Point, GA; two sisters: Ameria and DeAsia Brooks of West Point, GA; a bonus sister: Zykeria Brooks of West Point, GA; two uncles: Donald (Rumiko) Simpkins, Jr. of Seattle, Washington, and Dorian (Kimberly) Brooks of West Point, GA; two special friends: Deandre Harsey and Tayqwon Bargainer of Montgomery, AL; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
